Why Botanical Powders?

A botanical does not need to become a liquid to be valuable.

At LIIN, we work with whole botanical powders because we want the plant close to its natural form—recognisable, purposeful, prepared only as much as the formulation requires.

We are intentional about every step, always starting with the ingredient and remaining focused on how to preserve its character and maximise what it can bring to the formulation.

We use the whole botanical

Our powders begin with botanicals, carefully dried and milled to a fine consistency.

This allows us to work with the plant as a whole rather than reducing it to a single isolated compound. Green tea carries its catechins and polyphenols. Rosehip, its carotenoids. Turmeric, its curcuminoids. Frankincense, its naturally occurring resinous compounds.

Each botanical has its own chemistry. We want that complexity to remain part of the formulation.

Why powder

Water is not needed simply because skincare has traditionally been made with it.

Our powders allow us to leave it out.

The botanicals remain dry until the moment they are needed, without adding water or unnecessary ingredients simply to create a conventional liquid product.

It is a simple principle: if something is not needed, we do not add it.

Dry until activated

Our powdered formulations are activated at the moment of use.

The botanicals are prepared only when they are needed, becoming part of the ritual rather than sitting in a finished mixture.

The product is not simply opened.

It is prepared.

Freshly activated, each time.

Whole botanicals, not isolated actives

Modern skincare often focuses on the singular: one molecule, one function, one measurable claim.

There is value in understanding individual actives. But a plant is rarely made of one thing. Its naturally occurring compounds exist alongside one another, in relationship rather than isolation.

We choose our botanicals for what they contain, and formulate with the botanical itself.

Why we mill carefully

Drying and milling are not incidental steps.

Each botanical is prepared with care, so it can be incorporated in a fine, consistent form.

The aim is not to process the plant as much as possible.

Only as much as the formulation requires.

That distinction matters to us.

Only what is needed

We don't formulate to reach a number.

We formulate until nothing more is needed.

Every ingredient has to justify its place—not because a formulation should be as short as possible, but because each ingredient should have a clear purpose within it.

If something does not contribute meaningfully, it does not belong.

The result is often a naturally short ingredient list, but the number is never the objective.

Simplicity is not imposed. It is what remains when everything unnecessary has been stripped away.
